How to Spa

Spa Avania in Scottsdale, AZ
I think EVERYONE should go to a spa resort once in their life. Here's how to get the most out of a spa experience. When you book your spa appointment, make sure you arrive at least an hour before your scheduled appointment for a couple of reasons. First, the spa will give you a tour of the facilities and all its amenities. This gives you an idea of how you may spend your day. Next, I highly recommend relaxing before your treatment by slipping into their steam room to get your mind and body ready.

Don't worry about what you will be wearing at the spa, as you will be provided with a locker, a robe and slippers. The only thing I recommend bringing is your swimsuit and possibly workout clothes. This gives you more options to take advantage of all the amenities.

After you have spent some time in the sauna, go to the waiting room (sometimes called a relaxation room) 5-10 minutes before your treatment is scheduled to start. Grab a glass of water and take a few deep breaths. The therapist will come and pick you up and escort you to the treatment room. In the room, the therapist will discuss the treatment. This is perfect time to ask questions if you have any and also let them know if you have any allergies. He or she will instruct you in how to get on the table - face up or face down - and leave the room. If you're getting a massage, you will take off your robe, hang it on a hook, and get underneath the towel or sheets. The therapist will knock before reentering.

At the end of the treatment the therapist will leave the room while you put your robe back on and wait outside for you to emerge. Grab another glass fo water to help your body hydrate itself after the treatment. You can return to the relaxation lounge to rest, proceed to your next treatment or you can enjoy the other amenities that the spa offers such as a dip in the pool or a light meal on the patio.
